I started uni to be a midwife this sept...I wasnt 100% certain if I wanted to do it, and I'm glad I chose it. All the nurses I live with are the same. Also, most of these people are older. Surely you want to encourage younger students, because of the whole nurse/midwife issue atm. Also, finances - my family are VERY poor, and cant help me, yet I'm forcing myself to cope.
